Is 2012 the Apocalypse, or have we been stressing over nothing?
Fear sells. And doesn’t it do a very good job at pushing our panic buttons? Now, with the fated Dec 21, 2012 breathing down our back, it appears that every possible disaster has been given the tick of approval – massive earthquakes and catastrophic tsunamis, tick, scorching solar flares frying us to a crisp, tick, pandemic outbreaks killing billions, tick, looming world war, tick, predatory alien attacks, tick, tick. It kind of makes you wonder how we got to be the lucky ones chosen to witness the end days. It’s just around the corner and there’s nowhere to hide.
Is that what 2012 really about? As we move closer to the galactic centre, are we really moving closer to total annihilation? The Mayan calendar does stop on Dec 21, 2012. Many fear it’s the end of the world as we know it. For those who are unaware of the Mayan prophecies, they talk about the end of a cosmic cycle that lasts for just under 26,000 years based on the precession of the equinoxes. We are returning to a point in the galaxy, the galactic centre in the constellation of Sagittarius, where we haven’t been for nearly 26,000 years. This is what the Mayans meant by the Galactic Alignment– the end of a cosmic cycle. When we reach the centre the Mayans believed that the fifth world will end. Many believe that the end of the fifth world means the end of humanity. But have people misinterpreted the Mayans? Did the Mayans mean the end or a great shift? Is our fear of annihilation actually based on a misinterpretation of these prophecies?
I have never believed in the doomsday prophecies, so I was happy there are some grounded people out there putting a different spin to what the Mayan’s really meant.
I agree December 21, 2012 is not the end of the world. It is a shift in our consciousness. We will open up to a new awareness. So, yes, out with the old and in the new. It’s the end of the world as we know it not the end of the world. Personally, I’m looking forward to the shift in consciousness!

It’s nice to know it’s the end of the world as we know it. I most definitely will welcome the new shift in higher consciousness. We all remember the Year 2000 chaos and mayhem as well counted down at midnight expecting the whole world to stop, and to our wonderful surprise it kept going. It didn’t even skip a beat. 21/12/2012 will be exactly like that, maybe with a little cleansing to make way for the new, but I will not be building my Noah’s Ark. Blessings Elizabeth )O(

My husband’s birthday falls on 21.12.12 and mine on 12.12.12. We’ve heard a bit about the Apocalypse rumours but your article has put our minds at rest. I have felt the shifts in energy over the past months and also believe things will come to a head next year but in a positive way. I’ve had the feeling of ‘waiting’ and a vague excitement for a while now.
